Classroom

In my six years at South Lyon East High School, I have taught three different courses; Biology, Anlaytical Chemistry, and Chemistry.  Teaching these three courses provides me an oppotunity to work with 9th graders, 10th graders and 11th graders respectively.  Seeing and working with students throughout multiple of their high school years is a great way to get to know my students and their families as well as allowing me to see how my students grow and mature over the years. Each of the courses I teach hold a special place in my heart.

Biology

Biology is an amazing hands-on inquiry based course that provides Freshmen the opprotuntity to develop their critical thinking skills and fully experience discovery through the scientific method.  As a part of this class students enjoy the interactive units on the cell structure and function, ecology, human anatomy, genetics, biochemistry and evolution.

Chemistry

Chemistry provides students with a hands-on experience of the atomic world.  With the majority of this class being a laboratory experience, students work collabortively with their peers to deepen their understanding of the basic chemical fundamentals.  Students explore thermodynamics, nuclear chemistry, Kinetics, Equilibrium, Acid and Base Chemistry and much, much more.

Class of 2016 Advisor

Outside of the classroom I have the amazing opportunity to be the Student Council Class Advisor for the the Class of 2016.  Starting their freshmen year, this group of extordinary student and I have worked together to plan various school-wide functions and plan and impliment countless community-wide fundrasiers.  One of our most successful and rewarding fundraiser is our annual Pink Out in support of October's Breast Cancer Awarness Month.  This past year the students work tiredlessly on planning South Lyon East's 2015 Prom.  Working with these students outside of the class has been an extremely rewarding opportunity and allow me to get to know more of my school's families and the South Lyon community in general.

Mentor Program Facilitator

As an additional way to particpate in my school's community and to interact with the students, I co-facilitate our South Lyon East Cougar Connections Mentor Program.  Throughout the year I help 50+ upper classmen students create, organize and impliment acedimedic and social events to get the Freshmen students involved and adjusted to life as a high schooler.  As a part of this program the mentor students have many opportunties to particpate in leadership actvities and programming that help them to welcome our new freshmen class each year and ultimately to be the best possible mentor.
